Description

Some days a scarf is there to finish an outfit quietly. The Red Ruby is for the other days. It is a 90 x 90 cm rayon square in a rich ruby red, sourced from Türkiye and printed with the Ruby design, which also comes in black, peach and green.

It is a natural choice for a wedding reception or a Raya open house, and it stands out in a group photo. Worn with plain black or white, it also works on an ordinary weekday when you want one bold thing in your outfit.

Why Rayon

Rayon, also sold as viscose, is made from wood pulp that is dissolved and spun back into fibre. Because it starts as plant cellulose, it behaves more like cotton than like polyester. It absorbs moisture well, more than cotton does, and it feels cool against the skin when you first put it on. On a humid Malaysian day, that counts for a lot.

It also has weight. Rayon is heavier and more fluid than chiffon, so the scarf falls in soft folds around the face and shoulders instead of floating. Its surface has a little grip too, unlike silk or chiffon, so a fold stays where you press it.

There is one weakness to know about. Rayon is weaker when wet, and it can stretch or lose its shape if you wring or twist it in the wash. It also creases more easily than polyester. Handle it gently in water, give it a quick press, and it will last.

Opacity

Rayon is much denser than chiffon, so this scarf is far less see-through. In strong sunlight a white inner may still show faintly, so a black, red or deep maroon inner is the safest match.

90 x 90 cm: Our Small Size

By Malaysian standards this is a small square. A standard bidang 45 tudung bawal measures roughly 115 cm a side, so the Red Ruby gives less coverage. Folded into a triangle, it covers the head and neck and finishes at about the collarbone.

If you want the front to fall over your chest, choose one of our Large 115 x 115 cm scarves. The small size suits anyone who likes a neat, quick style with less fabric to manage. It is also the right size for neck scarves and head wraps.

Styling Ideas

A crisp front. Fold the scarf into a triangle, then turn the long edge back by two or three centimetres before you put it on. Rayon holds that fold, so the edge around your face stays sharp all day.

Wrapped and tucked. Pin under the chin, wrap one end around the neck, and tuck the tail inside the wrap at the side instead of pinning it. Rayon grips well enough for a tuck to hold.

Head wrap. Over an inner cap, tie the square at the nape and twist the ends into a small knot. A red wrap with a high-necked top is a strong, simple look.

Bow at the neck. Fold it into a band and tie a small bow at the side of the collar, over a black or white top.

What to Wear With Red

Red looks best when everything else steps back. Black, white, cream, navy and denim all let it lead. Grey makes it look more modern, and camel makes it warmer.

Keep your lipstick neutral, or wear a red that matches the scarf. A different red close to the face tends to clash, and the same is true of clothing. From our Armagan Collection, the Red Ruby looks striking with the black long dress or the white straight cut pants. Skip the scarlet tunic and trousers set, though. Two different reds side by side rarely sit well together.

Washing a Red Rayon Scarf

  • Strong red dyes run more than most colours. For the first few washes, wash the scarf on its own in cold water, and never with whites.
  • Hand wash with a mild detergent and don’t leave it soaking. Lift and press the fabric through the water rather than twisting or wringing it.
  • Roll it in a towel to take out the excess water, then dry it flat or on a hanger in the shade. Direct sun slowly fades red towards pink.
  • Iron on a low to medium setting while the scarf is still slightly damp, or from the reverse side. Too much heat can leave a shine on rayon.
  • Never tumble dry. Heat can shrink rayon.

Shipping & Returns

Every Benang Istanbul order ships within Malaysia through Pos Laju, and delivery is free once your order passes RM150. Malaysian shoppers order our Turkish scarves and shawls as everyday hijabs as often as fashion pieces, so every parcel gets the same careful handling regardless of what’s inside it. If your scarf arrives damaged, defective, or isn’t what you ordered, you have 7 days from delivery to let us know.

Delivery Timelines

  • Peninsular Malaysia: 2 to 4 working days once your parcel ships.
  • Sabah and Sarawak: 4 to 7 working days, since East Malaysia deliveries take a little longer to arrive.
  • Processing before shipping takes 1 to 5 working days. Add a day or two during major sales or festive periods, when courier volume goes up for everyone.

Shipping Cost

Orders of RM150 and above ship free, anywhere in Malaysia. Below that threshold, shipping is calculated at checkout based on your address and parcel size.

Returns and Exchanges

Because scarves and shawls are personal items, we sell most pieces as final sale. There are two exceptions:

  • Your item arrived damaged or defective.
  • You received the wrong item or the wrong size.

To qualify, the piece needs its original tags attached, no signs of wear or washing, and its original (or equally protective) packaging.

How to Report an Issue

Email info@benangistanbul.com or WhatsApp us at 017-661 4342 with your order number and a photo showing the issue. We’ll confirm whether it qualifies and send you the next steps.

Fabric & Care

Hand wash cold, skip the tumble dryer, and keep your scarf out of direct sunlight. That one habit protects the drape and colour of almost every fabric we work with, though each material has a few rules of its own worth knowing before you wash it the first time.

Silk

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent or a few drops of baby shampoo.
  • Don’t wring it. Press the water out gently between two towels instead.
  • Dry flat, away from direct sun. UV light dulls silk’s natural sheen over time.
  • Iron on the lowest setting with the scarf turned inside out, or steam it instead.
  • Store folded inside a breathable cotton pouch. Plastic bags trap moisture and can yellow silk.

Chiffon

  • Chiffon is sheer and delicate. Hand wash in cold water and avoid twisting or scrubbing the fabric.
  • Air dry flat or over a padded hanger. A regular wire hanger can leave marks in the weave.
  • If you need to iron it, use the lowest heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
  • Fold loosely once dry. Sharp creases are difficult to work out of chiffon later.

Cotton

  • Cotton handles a gentle machine wash on cold inside a mesh laundry bag, which protects the print.
  • Skip the bleach and fabric softener. Both wear down cotton fibres faster than expected.
  • Tumble dry on low, or line dry to keep the fabric looking newer for longer.
  • Iron on medium heat while the scarf is still slightly damp for the crispest finish.

Rayon and Viscose

  • Rayon loses strength when wet, so hand wash cold and handle it gently, without pulling or wringing.
  • Lay flat to dry. Hanging a wet rayon scarf can stretch it out of shape.
  • Iron on low to medium heat, always on the reverse side of the fabric.
  • Store flat or loosely folded rather than on a hanger.

Crepe

  • Hand wash cold and let the water pass through the fabric rather than rubbing it together.
  • Reshape the scarf while it’s still damp, then dry flat to keep the crepe texture intact.
  • Steam rather than iron where you can. That texture is part of the design, and a hot iron flattens it.

Twill and Linen (Keten)

  • Both fabrics tolerate a cold, gentle machine cycle, though hand washing extends their life.
  • Line dry out of direct sun to keep the print from fading.
  • Iron on medium heat while slightly damp. Twill and linen both respond well to a bit of moisture.
  • Fold rather than hang, so the weave doesn’t stretch out at the shoulders.

General Storage Tips

  • Keep every scarf away from direct sunlight and humidity. Both fade colour and weaken fibres over time.
  • Store delicate silk and chiffon pieces separately from heavier fabrics so nothing snags.
  • A cedar block or lavender sachet keeps moths away without the chemical smell of mothballs.
