Green Tanya is a plain mint green square with a striped border that deepens from soft sage through teal to a dark forest green. There is no print in the middle at all, just a clean field of pale green with a soft sheen. It is a 90 x 90 cm crystal crepe scarf from Benang Istanbul, made for the days when you want colour near your face without any pattern.
The main colour sits between mint and seafoam, light and cool without turning blue. Around the edge, three bands of green step down in shade, from sage to teal to a deep bottle green, and a thin mint line finishes the outer hem.
That graduated border does most of the styling work. When you fold the scarf into a triangle, the dark bands land along the edges that frame your face and fall over the shoulders, so a very simple scarf ends up looking considered.
Crystal crepe is a smooth crepe fabric with a fine surface and a soft, liquid drape. It has a light sheen, less than satin, which keeps the mint looking fresh rather than shiny.
The fabric has a few practical habits that make it easy to live with. It resists wrinkles, so a scarf that has spent the day folded in your bag still looks presentable when you take it out. Fold the square corner to corner and set the folded edge across the forehead. Pin under the chin and bring the ends around the neck, so the dark green bands sit along the sides of the face. Wear an inner cap underneath, as crystal crepe is smooth and holds best with something to grip.
Pin under the chin and let both ends hang over the shoulders. The fluid drape of crystal crepe looks especially good this way, with the border running down the front.
White, cream and beige keep the look soft. Navy, grey and dark green bring out the border. For contrast, try it with dusty pink, lilac or a muted coral.
