Description

Linen is the fabric people in hot countries have worn for centuries, and nothing invented since has replaced it. This tunic dress is 100% linen with no synthetic blended in. It is cut long and loose with full sleeves, and it closes down the front with buttons on an overlapping panel. A belt in the same buttercream linen comes with it.

Why Pure Linen Suits Malaysia

Linen is woven from flax fibre. It lets air through more freely than cotton, takes up moisture quickly and dries just as fast, so it does not stick to the skin the way most fabrics do on a humid afternoon. It is also one of the stronger natural fibres, and it gets softer every time it is washed. A linen piece usually feels better in its second year than it did on the first day.

The trade-off is that linen creases. It will crease when you sit, when you drive and when you carry a bag on your shoulder, and no amount of ironing in the morning prevents that. Most people who wear linen treat the soft rumple as part of the look. If you need a perfectly smooth finish all day, a Tencel piece from the same collection is the better choice.

Cut and Length

The tunic dress measures 120 cm from the shoulder. On our 178 cm model it ends at mid-calf. At around 160 cm it falls to the lower calf, a little above the ankle.

It is designed as a top layer. Wear it over wide trousers or a long skirt for full coverage. The set is the tunic dress and the belt only, and anything worn underneath in the photos is not included.

The front buttons run along an overlapping panel, which keeps the opening closed when you sit or walk. With the belt tied, the waist is gathered and the skirt flares slightly. Left unbelted, it hangs straight like a long shirt, and that is the cooler way to wear it on hot days.

Wearing a Light Linen

Linen has an open weave, and this is a pale shade, so plan your layers. Trousers or a skirt in cream, beige or another light neutral sit best underneath. Dark colours can show through in strong daylight. A nude or cream inner top is a sensible choice for the same reason.

Which Shawl to Wear with It

Buttercream is a warm cream, so it looks best next to other warm and earthy colours. Terracotta, olive, camel, chocolate brown and dusty rose all work well. Avoid bright optical white near the face, because it makes any cream fabric look yellow by comparison.

Texture matters too. Linen has a matte, slightly slubbed surface, and a cotton or rayon shawl with a similar matte finish looks more natural with it than a high-shine satin does. A printed shawl with a cream or beige base ties the outfit together without effort.

Tan sandals or loafers and a woven or leather bag in a natural colour finish the look.

Where It Fits

This is a smart-casual piece. It is right for casual Fridays, weekend outings, travel and a Raya morning visit. For a formal boardroom day, the crease-resistant pieces in the collection are a safer option.

Size and Fit

This piece is available in European size 40 only.

Our model is 178 cm tall with an 86 cm bust, 64 cm waist and 94 cm hips, and she is photographed in a size 38. The size 40 will sit slightly looser on a similar frame. The cut is relaxed and the belt adjusts the waist, so it suits a range of builds.

Please check the measurements before ordering, because our returns policy only covers damaged or incorrect items.

Care

Wash in cool water, by hand or on a gentle cycle, with light colours only. Hot water and hot tumble drying can shrink linen, so dry it on a hanger in the shade. Iron while it is still slightly damp, which is when linen creases release most easily. Do not use chlorine bleach, because it weakens the fibre and can turn cream fabric yellow. Hang it in the wardrobe instead of folding it, to avoid hard crease lines.

Shipping & Returns

Every Benang Istanbul order ships within Malaysia through Pos Laju, and delivery is free once your order passes RM150. Malaysian shoppers order our Turkish scarves and shawls as everyday hijabs as often as fashion pieces, so every parcel gets the same careful handling regardless of what’s inside it. If your scarf arrives damaged, defective, or isn’t what you ordered, you have 7 days from delivery to let us know.

Delivery Timelines

  • Peninsular Malaysia: 2 to 4 working days once your parcel ships.
  • Sabah and Sarawak: 4 to 7 working days, since East Malaysia deliveries take a little longer to arrive.
  • Processing before shipping takes 1 to 5 working days. Add a day or two during major sales or festive periods, when courier volume goes up for everyone.

Shipping Cost

Orders of RM150 and above ship free, anywhere in Malaysia. Below that threshold, shipping is calculated at checkout based on your address and parcel size.

Returns and Exchanges

Because scarves and shawls are personal items, we sell most pieces as final sale. There are two exceptions:

  • Your item arrived damaged or defective.
  • You received the wrong item or the wrong size.

To qualify, the piece needs its original tags attached, no signs of wear or washing, and its original (or equally protective) packaging.

How to Report an Issue

Email info@benangistanbul.com or WhatsApp us at 017-661 4342 with your order number and a photo showing the issue. We’ll confirm whether it qualifies and send you the next steps.

Fabric & Care

Hand wash cold, skip the tumble dryer, and keep your scarf out of direct sunlight. That one habit protects the drape and colour of almost every fabric we work with, though each material has a few rules of its own worth knowing before you wash it the first time.

Silk

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent or a few drops of baby shampoo.
  • Don’t wring it. Press the water out gently between two towels instead.
  • Dry flat, away from direct sun. UV light dulls silk’s natural sheen over time.
  • Iron on the lowest setting with the scarf turned inside out, or steam it instead.
  • Store folded inside a breathable cotton pouch. Plastic bags trap moisture and can yellow silk.

Chiffon

  • Chiffon is sheer and delicate. Hand wash in cold water and avoid twisting or scrubbing the fabric.
  • Air dry flat or over a padded hanger. A regular wire hanger can leave marks in the weave.
  • If you need to iron it, use the lowest heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
  • Fold loosely once dry. Sharp creases are difficult to work out of chiffon later.

Cotton

  • Cotton handles a gentle machine wash on cold inside a mesh laundry bag, which protects the print.
  • Skip the bleach and fabric softener. Both wear down cotton fibres faster than expected.
  • Tumble dry on low, or line dry to keep the fabric looking newer for longer.
  • Iron on medium heat while the scarf is still slightly damp for the crispest finish.

Rayon and Viscose

  • Rayon loses strength when wet, so hand wash cold and handle it gently, without pulling or wringing.
  • Lay flat to dry. Hanging a wet rayon scarf can stretch it out of shape.
  • Iron on low to medium heat, always on the reverse side of the fabric.
  • Store flat or loosely folded rather than on a hanger.

Crepe

  • Hand wash cold and let the water pass through the fabric rather than rubbing it together.
  • Reshape the scarf while it’s still damp, then dry flat to keep the crepe texture intact.
  • Steam rather than iron where you can. That texture is part of the design, and a hot iron flattens it.

Twill and Linen (Keten)

  • Both fabrics tolerate a cold, gentle machine cycle, though hand washing extends their life.
  • Line dry out of direct sun to keep the print from fading.
  • Iron on medium heat while slightly damp. Twill and linen both respond well to a bit of moisture.
  • Fold rather than hang, so the weave doesn’t stretch out at the shoulders.

General Storage Tips

  • Keep every scarf away from direct sunlight and humidity. Both fade colour and weaken fibres over time.
  • Store delicate silk and chiffon pieces separately from heavier fabrics so nothing snags.
  • A cedar block or lavender sachet keeps moths away without the chemical smell of mothballs.
