Description

A long white top is the piece most modest wardrobes are built around, and it is surprisingly hard to find a good one. Ordinary shirts are too short to wear over trousers without a second layer, and most long white tops are either thin polyester or stiff cotton that needs ironing twice a day. This one is 90 cm long, cut from Tencel, and plain enough to go with everything else you own.

Length and Coverage

The tunic measures 90 cm from the shoulder. Our model is 177 cm tall, and on her it ends a little above the knee. At around 160 cm the same length reaches the knee or just below it. Either way the hips and thighs are fully covered, so it can be worn over trousers on its own without a cardigan or long vest on top.

The body is relaxed and straight, with long sleeves. The front buttons sit on an overlapping panel, which keeps the opening flat and closed when you sit, bend or reach. There is no belt with this piece. It is meant to hang loose.

The Fabric: 90% Tencel, 10% Polyester

Tencel is a branded lyocell, a fibre made from wood pulp. It feels smooth and cool, breathes well and absorbs moisture much better than polyester, which is what you want from a long-sleeved top in Malaysian weather. It also drapes softly, so the tunic falls close to the body’s line without clinging to it. The 10% polyester helps it keep its shape and cuts down on creasing, so it still looks fresh at the end of a working day.

Wearing White

Any white top needs a little planning underneath. Wear a nude or skin-toned inner with this tunic, not a white one. White under white shows its outline clearly, while a tone close to your skin disappears.

For trousers and skirts, light and mid colours work without any thought. With very dark bottoms, check in daylight that the waistband does not show through the lower part of the tunic.

What to Wear It With

For the office, pair it with black, navy or grey tailored trousers. Add wide cream or beige trousers and the outfit becomes an all-neutral look that works for Friday prayers, a Raya visit or a daytime event. It also sits well over a long skirt, and under a long open cardigan or robe when you want another layer.

White gives you complete freedom with the shawl. This is the top to wear with your brightest print or your strongest colour, because nothing in it will compete. For a formal office look, a plain shawl in black, navy or soft grey keeps things calm.

One practical point: a new shawl in a very dark colour can transfer a little dye onto a white neckline in humid weather. Wash dark shawls once before wearing them with this tunic.

Size and Fit

Available in European sizes 36, 38, 40, 42 and 44.

Our model is 177 cm tall with an 86 cm bust, 63 cm waist and 94 cm hips, and she wears a size 38. The cut is relaxed, so choose your usual size for the loose fit shown in the photos.

Please check the measurements before ordering, because our returns policy only covers damaged or incorrect items.

Care

Wash with whites only, in cold water, by hand or on a gentle cycle. Treat foundation or lipstick marks at the neckline on the same day with a little mild detergent, before they set. Do not use chlorine bleach, which weakens the fibre and can leave white fabric looking yellow. An oxygen-based whitener is the safer option if the fabric ever needs brightening. Let deodorant dry fully before you dress, since that is the usual cause of underarm yellowing. Hang to dry and iron on low heat from the reverse side.

Shipping & Returns

Every Benang Istanbul order ships within Malaysia through Pos Laju, and delivery is free once your order passes RM150. Malaysian shoppers order our Turkish scarves and shawls as everyday hijabs as often as fashion pieces, so every parcel gets the same careful handling regardless of what’s inside it. If your scarf arrives damaged, defective, or isn’t what you ordered, you have 7 days from delivery to let us know.

Delivery Timelines

  • Peninsular Malaysia: 2 to 4 working days once your parcel ships.
  • Sabah and Sarawak: 4 to 7 working days, since East Malaysia deliveries take a little longer to arrive.
  • Processing before shipping takes 1 to 5 working days. Add a day or two during major sales or festive periods, when courier volume goes up for everyone.

Shipping Cost

Orders of RM150 and above ship free, anywhere in Malaysia. Below that threshold, shipping is calculated at checkout based on your address and parcel size.

Returns and Exchanges

Because scarves and shawls are personal items, we sell most pieces as final sale. There are two exceptions:

  • Your item arrived damaged or defective.
  • You received the wrong item or the wrong size.

To qualify, the piece needs its original tags attached, no signs of wear or washing, and its original (or equally protective) packaging.

How to Report an Issue

Email info@benangistanbul.com or WhatsApp us at 017-661 4342 with your order number and a photo showing the issue. We’ll confirm whether it qualifies and send you the next steps.

Fabric & Care

Hand wash cold, skip the tumble dryer, and keep your scarf out of direct sunlight. That one habit protects the drape and colour of almost every fabric we work with, though each material has a few rules of its own worth knowing before you wash it the first time.

Silk

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent or a few drops of baby shampoo.
  • Don’t wring it. Press the water out gently between two towels instead.
  • Dry flat, away from direct sun. UV light dulls silk’s natural sheen over time.
  • Iron on the lowest setting with the scarf turned inside out, or steam it instead.
  • Store folded inside a breathable cotton pouch. Plastic bags trap moisture and can yellow silk.

Chiffon

  • Chiffon is sheer and delicate. Hand wash in cold water and avoid twisting or scrubbing the fabric.
  • Air dry flat or over a padded hanger. A regular wire hanger can leave marks in the weave.
  • If you need to iron it, use the lowest heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
  • Fold loosely once dry. Sharp creases are difficult to work out of chiffon later.

Cotton

  • Cotton handles a gentle machine wash on cold inside a mesh laundry bag, which protects the print.
  • Skip the bleach and fabric softener. Both wear down cotton fibres faster than expected.
  • Tumble dry on low, or line dry to keep the fabric looking newer for longer.
  • Iron on medium heat while the scarf is still slightly damp for the crispest finish.

Rayon and Viscose

  • Rayon loses strength when wet, so hand wash cold and handle it gently, without pulling or wringing.
  • Lay flat to dry. Hanging a wet rayon scarf can stretch it out of shape.
  • Iron on low to medium heat, always on the reverse side of the fabric.
  • Store flat or loosely folded rather than on a hanger.

Crepe

  • Hand wash cold and let the water pass through the fabric rather than rubbing it together.
  • Reshape the scarf while it’s still damp, then dry flat to keep the crepe texture intact.
  • Steam rather than iron where you can. That texture is part of the design, and a hot iron flattens it.

Twill and Linen (Keten)

  • Both fabrics tolerate a cold, gentle machine cycle, though hand washing extends their life.
  • Line dry out of direct sun to keep the print from fading.
  • Iron on medium heat while slightly damp. Twill and linen both respond well to a bit of moisture.
  • Fold rather than hang, so the weave doesn’t stretch out at the shoulders.

General Storage Tips

  • Keep every scarf away from direct sunlight and humidity. Both fade colour and weaken fibres over time.
  • Store delicate silk and chiffon pieces separately from heavier fabrics so nothing snags.
  • A cedar block or lavender sachet keeps moths away without the chemical smell of mothballs.
