Description

Grey does for modest workwear what a grey suit does in a corporate wardrobe. It is formal without being as severe as black, it suits nearly every skin tone, and nobody remembers how often you have worn it. This set is a mid-to-deep slate grey and comes as three pieces: an inner dress, an outer robe and a fabric belt.

The Robe

The outer robe is the piece that gives the set its shape. It is full length with wide sleeves, 30 cm across, and it is worn open or wrapped and tied with the belt. When tied, it has the clean line of a long coat and does a similar job to a blazer in a meeting, without the stiffness or the heat. When left open over the inner dress, it is looser and better suited to a long day of sitting, driving or travelling.

Because the sleeves are wide, they slide back when you raise your arms. If you want full coverage at the wrist, wear a fitted inner sleeve or handsock underneath.

You can also wear the robe separately over a plain top and trousers, so it earns its place on days when you are not wearing the full set.

The Fabric: 90% Tencel, 10% Polyester

Tencel is the brand name for lyocell, a fibre produced from wood pulp. It is soft, hangs with a bit of weight, and absorbs moisture far better than synthetics. That is the reason a two-layer outfit like this one is wearable in Malaysian weather. The small polyester share helps both pieces keep their shape and resist creasing. Slate grey also helps here, because it hides minor creases and marks from a long day better than either black or cream does.

Length

Both layers measure 137 cm. On our 177 cm model the hem sits around the ankle. If you are nearer 160 cm it will reach the floor in flat shoes, so plan for a low heel or a one-time hem alteration.

Which Shawl to Wear with It

Slate grey is a cool-leaning neutral, so it pairs most naturally with dusty pink, maroon, navy and off-white. For the office, a plain shawl in a lighter grey or soft pink keeps the look calm. For an event, this is a good base for a printed shawl, since grey does not compete with a pattern. The Kehribar shawl in Midnight Grey stays tonal, and the Maroon adds warmth near the face.

Silver jewellery suits grey better than gold does, and black shoes and bag are the simplest finish.

Size and Fit

This colour is available in European sizes 40, 42 and 44.

Our model is 177 cm tall with an 86 cm bust, 63 cm waist and 94 cm hips. She is photographed in a size 38, which is not offered in slate grey. On a similar frame, the 40 will sit a little looser than it appears in the photos. The cut is relaxed and the belt adjusts the waist, so there is some flexibility between sizes.

Please check the measurements before ordering, because our returns policy only covers damaged or incorrect items.

Shipping & Returns

Every Benang Istanbul order ships within Malaysia through Pos Laju, and delivery is free once your order passes RM150. Malaysian shoppers order our Turkish scarves and shawls as everyday hijabs as often as fashion pieces, so every parcel gets the same careful handling regardless of what’s inside it. If your scarf arrives damaged, defective, or isn’t what you ordered, you have 7 days from delivery to let us know.

Delivery Timelines

  • Peninsular Malaysia: 2 to 4 working days once your parcel ships.
  • Sabah and Sarawak: 4 to 7 working days, since East Malaysia deliveries take a little longer to arrive.
  • Processing before shipping takes 1 to 5 working days. Add a day or two during major sales or festive periods, when courier volume goes up for everyone.

Shipping Cost

Orders of RM150 and above ship free, anywhere in Malaysia. Below that threshold, shipping is calculated at checkout based on your address and parcel size.

Returns and Exchanges

Because scarves and shawls are personal items, we sell most pieces as final sale. There are two exceptions:

  • Your item arrived damaged or defective.
  • You received the wrong item or the wrong size.

To qualify, the piece needs its original tags attached, no signs of wear or washing, and its original (or equally protective) packaging.

How to Report an Issue

Email info@benangistanbul.com or WhatsApp us at 017-661 4342 with your order number and a photo showing the issue. We’ll confirm whether it qualifies and send you the next steps.

Fabric & Care

Hand wash cold, skip the tumble dryer, and keep your scarf out of direct sunlight. That one habit protects the drape and colour of almost every fabric we work with, though each material has a few rules of its own worth knowing before you wash it the first time.

Silk

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent or a few drops of baby shampoo.
  • Don’t wring it. Press the water out gently between two towels instead.
  • Dry flat, away from direct sun. UV light dulls silk’s natural sheen over time.
  • Iron on the lowest setting with the scarf turned inside out, or steam it instead.
  • Store folded inside a breathable cotton pouch. Plastic bags trap moisture and can yellow silk.

Chiffon

  • Chiffon is sheer and delicate. Hand wash in cold water and avoid twisting or scrubbing the fabric.
  • Air dry flat or over a padded hanger. A regular wire hanger can leave marks in the weave.
  • If you need to iron it, use the lowest heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
  • Fold loosely once dry. Sharp creases are difficult to work out of chiffon later.

Cotton

  • Cotton handles a gentle machine wash on cold inside a mesh laundry bag, which protects the print.
  • Skip the bleach and fabric softener. Both wear down cotton fibres faster than expected.
  • Tumble dry on low, or line dry to keep the fabric looking newer for longer.
  • Iron on medium heat while the scarf is still slightly damp for the crispest finish.

Rayon and Viscose

  • Rayon loses strength when wet, so hand wash cold and handle it gently, without pulling or wringing.
  • Lay flat to dry. Hanging a wet rayon scarf can stretch it out of shape.
  • Iron on low to medium heat, always on the reverse side of the fabric.
  • Store flat or loosely folded rather than on a hanger.

Crepe

  • Hand wash cold and let the water pass through the fabric rather than rubbing it together.
  • Reshape the scarf while it’s still damp, then dry flat to keep the crepe texture intact.
  • Steam rather than iron where you can. That texture is part of the design, and a hot iron flattens it.

Twill and Linen (Keten)

  • Both fabrics tolerate a cold, gentle machine cycle, though hand washing extends their life.
  • Line dry out of direct sun to keep the print from fading.
  • Iron on medium heat while slightly damp. Twill and linen both respond well to a bit of moisture.
  • Fold rather than hang, so the weave doesn’t stretch out at the shoulders.

General Storage Tips

  • Keep every scarf away from direct sunlight and humidity. Both fade colour and weaken fibres over time.
  • Store delicate silk and chiffon pieces separately from heavier fabrics so nothing snags.
  • A cedar block or lavender sachet keeps moths away without the chemical smell of mothballs.
