Two of the brightest best sellers in the Piramit collection come together in this set from Benang Istanbul. 8T Electric Blue scatters soft florals across a deep royal blue, and 21T Rainbow Pyramids fills an ivory square with overlapping watercolour triangles. Both measure 90 x 90 cm, and each carries enough colour that the rest of the outfit can stay plain.
The blue on this scarf is strong and saturated, closer to royal blue than navy. Over it sit coral and pink blooms, hot pink and orange flowers, lilac petals and pale sky blue shapes, joined by sand coloured stems and a few burgundy buds. A wide sand beige border frames the square and softens all that blue near the face. The Piramit Luxer label is printed in a small beige box by one corner.
This blue looks good against white, cream, beige and grey. Wear it to the office with a white shirt, or with a cream baju kurung for a weekend visit to family.
Piramit is the Turkish word for pyramid, and Rainbow Pyramids takes the name literally. Small triangles in pink, magenta, mustard, yellow, teal, sky blue, coral, tan and violet overlap like layers of watercolour on an ivory ground, so new shades appear wherever two of them cross. The border is a bold red band edged with thin navy and light blue lines, and Piramit Luxer is printed in script in one corner.
It is a cheerful scarf that still looks grown up, mostly because the ivory ground leaves breathing room between the shapes. Pair it with denim, white or navy, or pick one colour from the triangles and wear it in a solid top.
The two prints share their blues. The pale blue petals on Electric Blue match the sky blue triangles and border lines on Rainbow Pyramids, and pink and coral turn up in both. These scarves are made with crystal crepe and rayon. Rayon, also known as viscose, is a fibre made from plant cellulose such as wood pulp. It is soft, light and breathable, and it absorbs moisture, which helps a great deal in Malaysia’s humid weather.
Crystal crepe is a crepe fabric with a smooth, soft face. It resists wrinkles, so the scarf comes out of a handbag or drawer looking neat, and any creases that do form iron out easily. It falls in soft, fluid folds and does not build up static or cling, which makes a square scarf much easier to pin and adjust during the day.
Each scarf is a 90 x 90 cm square, the standard size for a square headscarf, with enough fabric to fold into a triangle, pin under the chin and wrap at the neck.
Fold the square into a triangle, pin it under the chin and bring both ends around to the front. An inner cap underneath helps it stay put. Electric Blue gives a darker frame around the face, while Rainbow Pyramids keeps the look light.
Fold either scarf into a long band and knot it at the neck, with the knot set slightly to one side. Folded small and tied to a bag strap, Rainbow Pyramids adds a bit of colour to a plain handbag.
